Tired of expensive tourism strategies not being implemented? We have a solution.

We are surprised how many Council strategies end up un-implemented.

Councils invests months of time, tens of thousands of dollars, and significant community effort into developing tourism strategies that reflect their industry’s needs and a solid overarching strategic direction to grow benefits from tourism for the community and local businesses.

But then, time passes.

The glossy pdf is buried in a folder on the server. The Tourism Officer is caught up with reactive tasks, and the long-term vision starts to feel like a distant dream.

Without a bridge between strategic direction and weekly task lists, even the best strategies fail to gain momentum.

At Tilma, we believe a strategy is only as good as its execution.

That’s why we’ve moved away from just writing plans to providing long-term, hands-on support. To show you what this looks like in practice, here is a look at how we used implementation mentoring to help one of our clients move their strategy off the shelf and into the real world.

Case study: Warrnambool events strategy implementation support

When we wrote an events strategy for the City of Warrnambool we helped the events team implement its action plan via six-monthly planning sessions.

The first came immediately after Council had adopted their plan. In each session we planned what the team would work on achieving, considering their other responsibilities and influencing factors in that period, such as an unexpected opportunity, supporting a one-off major event, or working around the busy tourism season. In these sessions, we also reviewed together their progress over the past six months, and found solutions to barriers that had arisen.

I wanted to let you know how much I have loved working with you both and thank you for the work you have done with me and the team over the past two years. You have been inspiring and encouraging with your input into our roles and strategy.
— Lauren Edney, Service Manager of Events & Promotion, City of Warrnambool
