Tourism Award Submission

Outback Music Festivals Group

OMFG deliver two of the world’s most remote – and most loved (and usually sold out) music festivals:
the Birdsville Big Red Bash in Queensland and the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash in NSW.

Project purpose

Both of the Bash festivals deliver enormous economic benefits to small, remote communities right across the Outback as over 10,000 caravanners travel thousands of kilometres to attend each.

For the Big Red Bash’s tenth anniversary, OMFG wanted to try to win a Gold tourism award to thank the team and their over 500 volunteers for the incredible work they do in delivering an event that is extremely challenging logistically.

Project overview

In 2024, Tilma helped to write award submissions for both Bashes, based on earlier award support we had done for the Big Red Bash (a submission review of their 2019 submission, and writing their 2021 submission).

Project outcomes

Both submissions won Gold at their respective state tourism awards, and then went head to head with each other and all other Gold winners in the Festivals and Events category at the Australian Tourism Awards.

The Big Red Bash won Gold at the Australian Tourism Awards.

Kushla’s knowledge and guidance in pulling together award submissions is second to none. Kushla was so easy to work with and her experience in this area was invaluable.
