'Business for good' in the tourism industry

On World Tourism Day, 27 September, regional tourism development consultancy Tilma Group is launching a program that contributes to the resilience of regional, rural and remote communities.

Tilma Group have established a donation program to contribute 1% of our revenue each year to the Prepare & Recover grant program of the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal (FRRR). FRRR’s Prepare & Recover grants enable regional communities to implement initiatives that prevent, prepare for, and recover from climate change related impacts and disasters. Tilma Group’s clients regularly benefit from FRRR’s grants, so the partnership is a great fit.

This donation program is part of Tilma Group’s ongoing business for good initiatives, including reducing emissions, and inspiring and enabling others in the tourism and events industries to do so as well.

Here’s the selfie we took right when we made the decision to do this - look how happy it makes us!

Why?

I’ve put Tilma Group on a business for good path because I can. I’ve recently been mentoring tourism business owners and event organisers, and I’ve been exposed to and inspired by the wide variety of ways they are giving back to make their communities better.

This was a light bulb moment for me, which made me realise that I could be giving back to the regional and rural communities that we have worked alongside for the past 15 years.

It feels good to give back to the communities that support my business. Plus, my business is where I spend a lot of my waking hours, so it feels great to have it mean more than just about dollars and economic impact.

Plus, now more than ever, support from people like you and me is needed - demand for FRRR’s grants has doubled while its funding has been cut by 90%!

Over to you

Our friends, clients and industry colleagues (some of you are all three!) can join us in contributing to this important grant program, through our donation page

Go on, throw ten bucks in now for a feel-good buzz that’ll take you through the day!

We’d also absolutely love to hear what you’re doing in your business that is ‘business for good’, or hear about a business for good initiative you’ve seen that inspired you.
